Flowers in My Tool Box

I'm beginning to think my best projects are the ones not planned.  This one certainly reinforces that idea.  I so love it!

The end result came about the same way a lot of my projects do:  it started with an image in my head, but as I began to make it happen, the image evolved and the end product is so much better than what I originally pictured.

I ended up with this reproduction tool caddy made from old barn wood from my mom.  I remember she had it filled with fake apples and pinecones.  Apparently, I wasn't that interested in it because I told my hubby he could have it. {I don't recall that conversation. (:}  But he graciously gave it back to me to do with what I wanted and I think he approves of what I did.

Pinspired: Crochet Art

When I first joined Pinterest, it was a place for me to store all the ideas I saw all over the internet that I wanted to try out.  But soon, it became collections upon collections of things that looked pretty, looked intriguing, things I wanted to make or try, things I wanted to remember, or things that inspired me in some way.  So I feel like it's time to go back and look at those things I first pinned and do some creating.

This particular project/pin wasn't one I had thought to complete so soon.  I loved the look of the crocheted doilies simply bound in the embroidery loops, letting the hand-work be the art.

Seen here
But finding the doilies to create the art would take some time.  Scouting antique stores was deemed necessary.  But before I could even begin to think about starting that adventure, I inherited LOTS of doilies.

Trashy Treasures

Well, this was supposed to be finished much sooner than now, but I have a new part-time man in my life {you may remember him here} and he keeps me busier than I thought!  But I love having him around, and I'm learning to work fast while he's napping.

Isn't he just a cutie!
This has probably worked out for the best since I'm not sure when I'll get to the projects I planned for March.  We have been having some hellacious winds here in South Texas that make working outside super difficult.  Maybe April will bring calmer breezes....

Anyhoo...
I'm sure I've mentioned before I'm a bit of a pack rat.  I keep everything and never throw it away.  But I've been attending Pack Rats Anonymous meetings and its getting better, ha ha!  I actually heard a great quote on Duck Dynasty {!!} from Willie, something to the effect of: There comes a time when you need to get rid of old stuff to make room for new memories.  I'm trying.  Really, I am.  But I have my relapses...

And apparently I've developed this thing where I keep other people's garbage!  What is that?!  The most recent occurrence of that was at my Grannie's house.  She has been attending meetings as well {ha ha}, and was getting rid of lots of "junk" from her office she retired from a year back.  Lots of office supplies and more office supplies.  A lot of it we would term nowadays "vintage."  But, lots of it still usable.  So most of it came home with me, including this plastic molded desk caddy.  Not much to look at really, but the molded motif caught my eye, and I knew I could make it pretty.
